Principles of Operations Management Series

The Principles of Operations Management series consists of five modules, each comprised of eleven 3-hour class sessions, an array of optional advanced course materials, a mid-term exam, and a final exam.

Although each course belongs to the series, there is no inter-dependency between the courses. Students can take all or some of them in any order they wish.

The five modules are the following:

#Principles of Inventory Management

The goal of the Principles of Inventory Management course is to impart an operational knowledge, understanding, and essential vocabulary in identifying and applying the basic principles of inventory management. It will provide participants with a greater understanding of their roles and responsibilities in the control of inventory and the impact that inventory can have on a business.

Topics covered include inventory management fundamentals, ordering techniques, replenishment policies, JIT/lean techniques, sourcing, and purchase order management.

  • Fundamentals of Inventory Management
  • Inventory Replenishment Management
  • Advanced Inventory Management Techniques and Inventory Performance
  • Midterm Exam
  • Lean Inventory Concepts and Practice

  • Purchase Order Management and Performance Measurement
  • Final Exam

#Principles of Operations Planning

The goal of the POP course is to impart a fundamental knowledge and understanding of the basic manufacturing and distribution planning principles and techniques that are used at each level in the production and materials planning process, from strategic to tactical.

The course provides practical examples and exercises, giving participants an opportunity to learn the essential ingredients of effective planning and have an opportunity to practice and enhance their own planning skills

Topics covered include planning foundations, business planning, basics of forecasting, sales and operations planning, production planning, and master scheduling.

#Principles of Manufacturing Management

The goal of the Principles of Manufacturing Management course is to provide an introduction to the manufacturing environment. Through case study discussion and interactive problem solving exercises, participants will gain a functional competency in production activity control and manufacturing management.

Topics covered include managing the manufacturing environment, manufacturing planning and control activities, material requirements planning (MRP), capacity management, capacity requirements planning (CRP), and just-in-time (JIT).

The goal of the Principles of Managing Operations course is to impart a fundamental knowledge and understanding of the systems, computerized technologies, and process management tools involved in designing and operating the manufacturing and distribution environment.

Topics covered include process and project management, product life cycle management, quality management and sustainability, and information technology support for production and distribution management systems.

#Principles of Distribution and Logistics

The goal of the Principles of Distribution and Logistics course is to introduce the foundations of planning and control in distribution and logistics operations.

Topics covered include basics and principles of logistics management, warehousing, transportation, fulfillment, supply chain management (SCM), and the principles, functions, and application of distribution requirements planning (DRP) are studied and explored.
