What Happened to ERP?
June PDM

Joe F. Schriever, Electronic Government Project Manager, Texas Department of Health, will delve into the great ERP movement of the 1990s and look at what really happened. After a lot of resources were committed, a lot of money was spent, and a lot of overtime was worked, what really changed? The simple fact is that the promise of ERP was not realized. But why?

Speaker

As the E-Government Project Manager for a major state agency, Joe has been involved in major systems implementation projects for twenty-five years. As a systems analyst and project manager for GTE Corporation, he was involved in the system changes that occurred at the breakup of AT&T.; As an information systems auditor (he's still a Certified Information Systems Auditor [CISA]), he spent over five years reviewing the management and operation of information systems. As a manager of purchasing, materials and transportation maintenance, Joe dealt with the operational side of information systems. Now, as one of a small group of primary architects for systems interoperability for the state, he is defining the future of state information technology.

In terms of the ERP boom, Joe will define the objectives and outline the effort. But the end result wasn't exactly what had been planned. Joe will address the problems and describe their impact on the overall effort. Then, as a look into the future, he will describe the architecture now being developed.

Joe Schriever, CIRM, CISA, is also a Certified Quality Analyst and Certified System Test Engineer. His work experience is in telecommunications, electric, water and waste water utilities, and state government. He lives outside of Austin, Texas, and is a past president of the Austin APICS Chapter.
