August 2018 Professional Development Meeting

Title: Onboarding, Retaining, and Developing Today’s Diverse Supply Chain Professional

Topic: With the current gap of supply chain talent in today’s business landscape, professionals are being challenged to not only identify and recruit top talent but also retain high performers once they are hired.

Keynote Speaker: Elizabeth Hair-Estrella, Senior Manager - Redistribution Inventory Management at Sysco Corporation

Topic Summary: With the current gap of supply chain talent in today’s business landscape, professionals are being challenged to not only identify and recruit top talent but also retain high performers once they are hired.  Simultaneously the multi-generational workforce has its own unique set of challenges with four generations dominating the business environment – Greatest Generation, Baby Boomers, Gen X-ers, and Millennials.  In order to address these challenges how we manage and onboard our employees’ needs to evolve.  This session will discuss specific best practices that can be taken back and applied immediately to (1) develop an onboarding program resulting in retaining talent (2) a framework for establishing mentoring programs to leverage tenured experienced employees and challenge aspiring associates and (3) what Elizabeth likes to call “building better supply chain professionals”.

The benefit to building programs into the life cycle management of supply chain professionals is better retention, better developed and prepared professionals, and more highly engaged employees.
